- Where
- Marrakech medina
The Marrakech medina is a maze of more than a thousand alleys, and many visitors spend their first day lost, hassled by unofficial guides, or missing the best sights. A half day with a licensed local guide solves all three.
Your guide meets you at your riad or hotel and walks you through the old city: the Koutoubia mosque, the painted rooms of the Bahia Palace, the Jewish quarter and spice square, the carved courtyard of the Ben Youssef Madrasa, and the craft souks where each street has its own trade.
There is no forced shopping. If you want to buy a rug, lamp or leather bag, your guide can point you to fair workshops and explain how to bargain; if not, you simply keep walking. The tour ends at Jemaa el-Fnaa, or back at your accommodation.
