The short answer

March to May and late September to November are the best times to visit Marrakech: warm days around 23–29 °C, cool evenings and long hours of sun. Winter is mild and quiet, while July and August regularly reach 40 °C in the afternoon.

Spring (March to May)

The most popular season. Gardens are in bloom, the Atlas still has snow on the peaks and the Ourika valley is at its greenest. Book hotels and balloon flights early around Easter.

Summer (June to August)

Very hot in the city, so plan sightseeing early and late, with a long lunch and pool in between. It is a good time for the mountains and Essaouira, which stay much cooler. Desert nights are warm and starry.

Autumn (September to November)

The heat drops away from mid-September. October is one of the best months of the year for the desert and for walking in the Atlas. Rain becomes more likely in November.

Winter (December to February)

Sunny days around 18–20 °C, but nights can drop to 5 °C, and riads are not always well heated. Pack layers. It is the best season for clear views of the snowy Atlas, and a balloon flight on a cold, still morning is spectacular.

Ramadan

During Ramadan many Moroccans fast from sunrise to sunset. Tourist sights, hotels and tours run normally, some restaurants close during the day, and evenings become lively after the breaking of the fast. In 2027, Ramadan is expected around 8 February to 9 March; exact dates depend on the moon.
