- Essaouira, 190 km west
Essaouira is a relaxed fishing town on the Atlantic, two and a half hours west of Marrakech. Its walled medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its harbour is full of blue wooden boats, and the sea breeze keeps it cool even in August.
On the drive you stop at an argan cooperative and, in season, at the famous trees where goats climb to eat the argan nuts. In Essaouira you have about four hours of free time to walk the ramparts, eat grilled fish at the port stalls and explore the galleries and woodwork shops of the medina.
It is a long day, but it gives you a completely different side of Morocco from the red city.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Essaouira from Marrakech?
About 190 km, or 2.5–3 hours each way including a stop.
Is a day trip to Essaouira worth it?
Yes, if you like the sea and slower towns. If you prefer a shorter day, Ourika or Imlil are closer.
Are the goats in trees real?
Goats do climb argan trees, mainly in autumn when the fruit is ripe. Some roadside spots are staged for tourists; your driver will explain.
Can I stay overnight in Essaouira?
Yes. Ask for a private tour and we can arrange a return the next day.
