If you want a camel ride without leaving the city for the evening, the Palmeraie is the place. It is a huge oasis of date palms on the northern edge of Marrakech, crossed by sandy paths and dotted with small farming villages.
You change into a Berber gandoura and headscarf if you like, meet your camel, and ride slowly through the palms for about an hour and a half. The afternoon departure ends close to sunset, when the light through the palms is at its softest.
It is a calm, easy activity that suits young children, older travellers, and anyone short on time.

Palmeraie is shorter and closer. Agafay gives you desert scenery and dinner, but takes the whole afternoon and evening.
